The First Luxembourger Winner at Le Doyenne
The 40th edition of Liege-Bastogne-Liege was held on May 9, 1954.
Marcel Ernzer (Lux-Terrot) broke away from the peloton on the return to Liege. He rode everyone off his wheel and rode back into Liege, well ahead of the media-predicted Belgian and Swiss favorites.
Marcel Ernzer (Lux) claimed the 1954 Liege-Bastogne-Liege victory.
Ernzer earned Luxembourg's first grand victory at Le Doyenne (French LBL nickname: "The Old Lady").
